Have you ever had a pet grasshopper? When you picked it up did it hop away? Well read this article and you won't even need a cage!

Find your grasshopper. Look on plants with holes in the leaves. You may find it was only caterpillars, but if you are lucky you will find a grasshopper. Try to find a small one (not too small, a half inch or 1.25cm is about right) that is still green, they are young and easier to tame.

Pick it up. Put your hands around it and close them together all the way. Wait until you feel it stop squirming. This may take awhile. Open your hands very slowly. Put it back on the plant you found it on.

Repeat every day for about a week or so try to coax it onto your hand. Does it hop? No? You've got a tamed grasshopper! If it does hop, try again. Eventually it will want to come to you!

Tips

  • If it hops to another plant and you can't find it, just find another grasshopper.

Warnings

  • Be sure not to crush the grasshopper!
